The event included a special blessing for the graduates, words of congratulations from Felician Village representatives, the presentation of the CNA certificates, and cake to celebrate the event. The students were encouraged to invite family and friends to share in the celebration. Completion of the class makes graduates eligible to take the CNA state exam.

March’s Service Excellence Star Award Winner

March 2017 Stephanie MardsenFelician Village announces Stephanie Madson, Social Worker, was chosen for the Service Excellence Star Award for the month of March.

Stephanie’s nomination: “I had a lot of bad days. Stephanie was always there to comfort me. I always felt better after our talks. She is definitely a keeper and excellent at her job.”
In conjunction with Felician Village’s Service Excellence initiative and Resident Firstsm philosophy, selection is based on the employee’s conduct as it reflects Felician Village values. Service Excellence is a way of consciously living out the mission and core values of Felician Village and fostering an environment that creates exceptional experiences for all.

Each month co-workers, residents, family members and visitors are encouraged to nominate an employee to be considered for the Service Excellence Star Award. The award subcommittee reviews the completed nomination forms monthly and a winner is selected.

February 2017 Julie Hess.jpgFelician Village announces Julie Hess, LPN, was chosen for the Service Excellence Star Award for the month of February.

Julie’s nomination: “Julie went above and beyond assisting a resident in finding his cell phone in the laundry and providing one-on-one communication to the resident’s spouse who was upset. She did all of this in addition to a busy morning, and still had a smile.”
In conjunction with Felician Village’s Service Excellence initiative and Resident Firstsm philosophy, selection is based on the employee’s conduct as it reflects Felician Village values. Service Excellence is a way of consciously living out the mission and core values of Felician Village and fostering an environment that creates exceptional experiences for all.

Felician Village Welcomes New Director of Human Resources

Michael Hillmer TEMP photo 3Frank Soltys, President/CEO of Felician Village, announces Michael Hillmer has been named the Director of Human Resources for Felician Village. Hillmer began his duties on the senior living campus March 6.

Hillmer will be responsible for staffing initiatives, recruitment, retention and succession planning. He will also work with staff development, mentoring/coaching and legal compliance. He will also develop and maintain policies and procedures and handle compensation related studies.

“Working with people has always been my passion. I believe very strongly in finding the right team and treating them well, as they are the foundation that any successful organization is built on. A strong team and work family will allow us to continue to be the leader in senior housing services in Manitowoc County,” commented Hillmer.

Hillmer comes to Felician Village with over 15 years of experience managing human resource functions in healthcare. By utilizing his leadership skills he has implemented HR solutions to improve business performance as well as increasing efficiencies and employee engagement.

Hillmer holds multiple degrees from Silver Lake College, including a Bachelor degree in Management with a Human Resources emphasis and a Master of Organizational Behavior. He also holds a 2nd undergraduate degree from Saint Norbert College in International Business and a minor in Spanish. College.

He also has the following certifications:
• Certified in Healthcare and Human Resources – American Hospital Association
• SHRM-Senior Certified Professional – Society for Human Resources Management
• Senior Professional in Human Resources – HR Certification Institute

Hillmer and his wife, Maria, reside in Manitowoc with their 3 children, Brittney (19), Maxwell (10) and Jake (8). Michael enjoys coaching with Manitowoc youth
soccer and assisting with Cub Scouts, youth baseball and cheering his kids on wherever their activities take them.

The event included a special blessing for the graduates, words of congratulations from Felician Village representatives, the presentation of the CNA certificates, and cake to celebrate the event. The students were encouraged to invite family and friends to share in the celebration. Completion of the class makes graduates eligible to take the CNA state exam.

The next onsite CNA class at Felician Village will be announced. Applications are available at Felician Village, 1635 S. 21st St., Manitowoc.

New Social Worker Certified at Felician Village

Felician Village is excited to announce, Stephanie Madson, social worker at Next Step Rehab at Felician Village, recently passed her Association of Social Work Boards. Madson is now a certified social worker.

Madson graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a BS, majoring in Social Work and Sociology. Since that time, she’s been a corporate guardian, providing services to over 55 individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness and the infirmities of aging throughout Wisconsin.

Next Step Rehab is a 20 bed unit at Felician Village that helps bridge the gap between hospital and home.

Virtual Dementia Tour Facilitators Now at Felician Village

Felician Village is excited to announce, Connie Thimmig, Director of Enrichment Services, LuAnn Luckow, Social Services Designee, and Lisa Voda, Assistant Living Manager, are now trained Virtual Dementia Tour® facilitators.
The Virtual Dementia Tour® is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use patented sensory tools and instruction. Felician Village offers it to deepen the understanding and knowledge of dementia to our staff and through our Caregiver College series.
Members of the public can experience the virtual dementia tour on June 13 from 3-5 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (920) 684-7171, ext. 329.

Kim’s nomination: “Kudos to Kim for working through the Caregiver College brochures with me. It was no small job and she did it with a smile, patience and in a professional, respectful manner. The final products offer several classes to both the professional and community/family caregiver in a user friendly format.”

Collequium Set for February 14th

Katie Walkner.jpgSilver Lake College will present a faculty colloquium from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 14 in Room 325 on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. It is free and open to the public.

Katie Walkner will speak on the coming of the Saxons to England, including an earlymention of King Arthur. Walkner is Silver Lake College’s history instructor and chair of the department of arts and humanities.

Her talk is titled, “Somewhere Between Fact and Fiction: The Historical Value of Vortigern and theAdventusSaxonum as presented in ‘HistoriaBrittonum.’”

Coffee and snacks will be served.
