A young man trying to illegally fly to New York really committed to his cover story — that he was a frail, 81-year-old man. He had the turban, fake white beard, old man glasses, and wheelchair.
And he would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for his perfectly smooth and youthful-looking skin.
India Today caught wind of the odd story, reporting that 32-year-old Jayesh Patel created a whole persona to trick security into letting him board a plane to New York from New Delhi on Sunday.
Patel rolled up to security in his wheelchair and presented a fake passport issued to a man named Amrik Singh, with a birthday of February 1, 1938.
India’s Central Industrial Security Force was skeptical at first, but soon came to uncover Patel’s lies when he refused to let security frisk him. Upon closer look, the CISF noticed the dyed-hair and the youthful glow of his skin.
After more questioning, Patel’s facade crumbled and he came clean, even admitting that he came from Ahmedabad, a city nearly 600 miles away from the airport — roughly a 15-hour drive.
Immigration officials currently have Patel in custody to find out what inspired the young man to do something this illegal — and stupid.
