Man calls in bomb hoax to avoid parents’ visit

A French airliner travelling from Lyon to Rennes earlier this month was forced to make an emergency landing after a bomb hoax was called in by a man who didn’t want to see his parents, according to the Independent.

Authorities investigating the call said the person behind the hoax was a 23-year-old college student in Rennes, who allegedly didn’t want his parents — who were on the flight — to visit him, according to the British newspaper.

The man was arrested and charged with “false news compromising the safety of an aircraft in flight,” according to the aviation website Airlive. He’s due to appear in criminal court on May 21.
