Sheboygan County Humane Society Gala

Life is a journey; unexpected, undefined, scary and adventurous. Now imagine being a homeless animal stranded, confused and no way to communicate. Like many of the wandering travelers that come to Sheboygan County Humane Society, they have an untold story. This journey is of a young dog named Dooey and how he came in as a misunderstood stray that found his way to the spotlight and a loving home.

Dooey came to SCHS November 7, 2015; a kind citizen, not knowing this dog, only saw a stray animal that needed help. Dooey, the flash of energy and excitement, started rocking our world. As many dogs that come to SCHS they can get overlooked because of their flamboyant personality. These animals need time, patience, love and a structured lifestyle that will keep them grounded. Some of life’s greatest lessons can be learned by animals. The perseverance of animals is inspirational; how do they learn to love and trust again? They learn with little steps of kindness and courage.

Dooey had been at SCHS 4 months; he didn’t know it but he was getting ready to become a fashion sensation. Dooey was one of the adoptable dogs to be selected to run the “dog walk” at SCHS’s Striking a Pose for a Paws Cause Gala fundraiser in April 2016.

Dooey was ready for his red-carpet runway debut; he had private sessions with the highly famed pet photographer Breanna Rae. He landed a magazine cover photo and was building his fan base to launch his career. Lights, success and a newly groomed shining coat…he was ready!

After the excitement of the Gala, Dooey was ready for his next adventure in a foster home. At the same time, in the Town of Belgium, a 5 year old dog named Cedar was searching for an outgoing friend. Cedar’s parents stumbled upon Dooey listed in SCHS’s foster program. He was the perfect age, gender, breed, and energy level. Dooey’s foster mom told him about the meet and greet and he couldn’t contain his excitement.  At the meet and greet Dooey was showing off; his striking dark chocolate-colored coat, velvety ears, and sweet eyes were mesmerizing. Everything was falling into place, it was obvious Dooey and Cedar were meant to be together. According to his new home, “Spruce (Dooey) has taught all of us to be patient while he was finding his place in our family. We couldn’t imagine life without him”.

Every journey long or short has lessons that are gained along the way. Never give up hope, no matter long how long it takes, there is always someone who will find you.
