Valentine’s Concert

Celebrate Valentine’s Day by attending “Six Centuries of Love Songs,” a concert of music from the 16th century through the present,starting at 3 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

The concert will feature Bella Voce Camerata, a Chicago-based professional choral ensemble,

in the college’s Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance.  All members of the Camerata are drawn from Bella Voce’s full ensemble.

From Renaissance madrigals to music of our time, the concert will celebrate love through the beauty of timeless song. The program will feature music by Thomas Morley, Claudio Monteverdi, Henry Purcell, W. A. Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, The Beatles, Billy Joel and Cold Play.

Bella Voce is an ensemble-in-residence at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Theatre & Music. Its repertoire and performance practices are rooted in the discipline of the English Renaissance and European Baroque traditions.

Since 1983, the ensemble has performed historically informed presentations of vocal works, whether well-known, rare or new. Audiences are invited to join Bella Voce in discovering artworks that have the power to lift up, move and transform them.

In 2004, Bella Voce received the prestigious American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Alice Parker Chorus America Award. The ensemble has recorded for Centaur, Harmonia Mundi, Narada and Cedille Records, and also has four self-produced CDs in release.

Bella Voce performs under the leadership of Andrew Lewis, artistic director. Bella Voce Cameratasingers include Laura Lynch, soprano; Kirsten Hedegaard, soprano; Sarah Ponder, mezzo-soprano; Matthew Dean, tenor; and Vince Wallace, bass.

Tickets to the Silver Lake College Artist Music Series concert are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (ages 55 and older) and $5 for students (ages 5-18).
