When Charles Lohmeyer saw that the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign was not going to make its goal he did something to help the cause and in doing so helped to Change Lives. Through the generosity of Red Arrow a Kerry Company a donation of $3,000 was made to aid the Salvation Army with its many programs. Laurie Kiekafer who was instrumental in securing the funds presented the check to Lt. Jeff Olson, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army of Manitowoc County. “It is amazing to me how the people and businesses of Manitowoc County come together in a time of need to help others.”, stated Lt. Olson. “It is because of the generosity of businesses like Red Arrow that allow the Salvation Army to help those in need”, says Lt. Olson.
The Salvation Army this holiday season distributed 1200 coats to area children and Christmas toys to over 1,500 kids along with food baskets for their families. Throughout the year the Salvation Army Food Pantry on average serves 400 families per month. “The donation from Red Arrow will aid us in continuing many of these programs”, stated Lt. Olson.
As of today the Red Kettle Campaign has not reached the 50% mark. If the Salvation Army does not reach the goal of $150,000 by years end some tough decisions are going to have to be made including possible program cuts.
