Former police officer Steven Zelich will be sentenced this (Wednesday) afternoon for killing one of two women whose bodies were found in suitcases near Lake Geneva. The 54-year-old Zelich struck a plea deal in January, just as a trial was about to begin in Kenosha County. He pleaded guilty to hiding a corpse and a reduced charge of reckless homicide for the 2012 choking death of 19-year-old Jenny Gamez of Oregon. Zelich, a former West Allis police officer, also faces a murder charge in Minnesota for the 2013 death of Laura Simonson at a hotel in Rochester. Both bodies were found in suitcases along a roadside in 2014, and his lawyer says both killings were inadvertent following rough sex Zelich had with both victims.
