There will be a peaceful protest tomorrow in support of convicted murderers Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey. The protest will take place near the county courthouse and the sheriff’s office beginning at 10AM.
According to Captain Larry Zimney, South 9th Street, between Washington and Marshall Street, will be barricaded off and closed to traffic.
With visitors already at local hotels, Zimney says that the department is planning to see a couple hundred protestors.
Zimeny emphasized that the protestors have a constitutional right to protest. The department is also planning for possible counter-protestors.
The peaceful protest is also expected to hold a candle-light vigil at 5PM tomorrow and could last until 10PM.
The protest is in response to the Dec. 18 release of “Making a Murderer,” a controversial 10-episode Netflix series questioning the tactics used by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department and raising concerns about the validity of the convictions.
